A group of students and staff with the University of Washington Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) visited Parametrix’s Seattle office on Friday, May 6. The group included international students from China and India majoring in Communications, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science.
FIUTS is a nonprofit organization that was founded at the University of Washington in 1948. The organization focuses on promoting international understanding and community with a vision of a global community tied to the Pacific Northwest in which people are connected through friendship, mutual respect, and a commitment to international understanding. During the visit, we provided a tour of the main floor of our Seattle office. The group of students were curious to learn about the hybrid work environment and the variety of collaborative and independent workspaces spread throughout the office.
After the tour, we provided lunch and shared information about Parametrix – our history, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and a few projects presented by me, Liz Kelly, Paul Fendt, Mike Hall, and Cedar Simmons. During the presentation, students engaged on topics from hiring practices, internship/job opportunities, Visa sponsorship, and project-related questions. Other employee-owners who were in the office joined us for lunch and chatted with students.
It’s important to us at Parametrix to support these organizations/communities as they connect us with talented and diverse candidates and promote STEM professions in underrepresented communities.
