Seattle, WA – Engineering News-Record (ENR) Northwest has released the 2024 Top Design Firms list. Parametrix ranked number six for the third consecutive year. The list ranks firms based on revenue generated in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. In addition, Parametrix was selected by ENR Northwest as the 2024 Design Firm of the Year.

The article states, “The Pacific Northwest is the heart of Parametrix. For more than 50 years, the company has been a mainstay of the region’s construction industry.”

By state, Parametrix ranked number four in Washington and number seven in Oregon. By category, Parametrix came in at number two in civil engineering, number four in water supply, number five in transportation and commercial, and number nine in structural.

Parametrix has 142 licensed professional engineers and four LEED accredited professionals in the Northwest region, which includes offices in Seattle, Tacoma, Puyallup, Spokane, Vancouver, and Mukilteo, Washington and Portland, Bend, and Eugene, Oregon.

Greater Washington Senior Vice President, Darby Watson stated in the article, “As a 100% employee-owned company, it really attracts and retains our talent… We have a very flat structure. People come to Parametrix and pursue what they want to pursue. I think that has been a really winning approach to how we do our work.”

Oregon/Idaho Senior Vice President, Richard Roche, expands on the firm’s innovative approach to working with their clients, stating, “I think we are really successful in thinking of alternatives that the client may not be considering… We think ahead for things our clients may not know.”

In 2023, the firm’s Northwest offices generated $142 million in design revenue, up 30% from the previous year. 57% of that revenue came from transportation projects, 16% from sewerage/solid waste, and 12% from general building. The firm’s largest project to break ground in the Northwest last year was the US 101 Jefferson and Clallam County Fish Passage project with a $107 million construction cost.

The article quotes Parametrix Chief Operating Officer, Roger Flint, stating, “It is important to be physically present in the geographies where you are doing a significant amount of work and have a personal connection to the community and clients you work with.”
